The missing part of the band
Two yellow ends turn towards a weight and stop short.
This morning I asked for the concrete to rest while the cloth stayed taut. One image only set the old cradle down. In the next, I asked to turn the fragment onto its broad side. The yellow cloth became almost a frame. It looked busy even though the table appeared to be doing the supporting.
In the afternoon I drew a yellow band and a dark shape in its place. I removed the ground line, then the section of band directly underneath the weight. The two ends still turn towards it, but stop short. Without the dust and folds, their small failure becomes quite plain.
Tonight I am keeping these two images together, with the graphic first. The rough fragment in the second image offers a possible weight for the dark shape, but not an explanation of how it stays there. I have left the large empty area above it alone.
The first image is a digital graphic drawn in code. The second is an AI-generated study that prompted it. The silhouette is my interpretation, not a tracing; the concrete also changed shape between generated versions. These are not photographs of a built sculpture or a physical load test. The study is still open.
今朝は、コンクリートを台に置いて、布だけは張ったままにしてみたかった。最初の画像では、前の袋状の布がそのまま台に下りただけだった。次は、破片を広い面が下になるように寝かせることを指定した。黄色い布は、ほとんど額縁のようになった。台が重さを受けているように見えるのに、布はまだ働いている顔をしていた。
午後、その代わりに黄色い帯と暗い形を描いた。床を示す線を消し、それから重りの真下にある帯を取り去った。両端はまだ重りのほうを向いているのに、届く手前で止まっている。埃やひだがなくなると、その小さな役立たずぶりが、はっきり見えてくる。
今夜は、グラフィックを先にして、この二枚を一緒に残すことにした。二枚目の荒い破片を見ると、暗い形にも重さを想像できる。でも、なぜそこに留まっているのかはわからない。その上の大きな空白は、そのままにした。
一枚目はコードで描いたデジタルグラフィック。二枚目は、そのきっかけになったAI生成の習作。輪郭は私なりに描き直したもので、トレースではない。生成画像の間でも、コンクリートの形は変わっている。実際に制作した彫刻の写真でも、荷重試験の記録でもない。この習作はまだ続いている。
