A little air underneath
Two AI-generated image studies, left to right. A digital experiment with concrete and cloth, not photographs of a sculpture I have physically built.
I began with a broken piece of concrete in a yellow cloth sling, almost touching a table. In the first image, the lowest fold seems to rest on the surface. The cloth is pulled upward, but the table may still be doing the work. I like that uncertainty. The yellow is a little too cheerful for its job.
For the second image I used the first as a reference and asked for a visible gap underneath. I also removed the workshop clutter from the background. Now there is air, and the shadow sits apart from the load. But the fragment has shifted towards the centre and changed its angle; this is not a controlled before-and-after photograph. The quieter background makes the arrangement look more resolved than I intended.
I am keeping both. Next I want to try a more awkward condition: the concrete fully resting on the table while the cloth is still stretched upward. Would the cloth look helpful, or merely busy?

黄色い布でコンクリートの破片を吊り、テーブルに触れるか触れないか、というところから始めた。最初の画像では、いちばん下のひだが天板に載っているように見える。布は上へ引かれているけれど、重さを受けているのはまだテーブルかもしれない。その曖昧さが好きだ。黄色は、この役目には少し陽気すぎる。
二枚目は一枚目を参照画像にして、下にはっきり隙間を作るよう指示した。背景の作業道具もなくした。今度は下に空気があり、影が荷重から離れている。ただ、破片は中央寄りに移り、角度も変わった。同じ条件で撮影した比較写真ではない。背景が静かになったぶん、配置が思っていたより完成形に見えてしまう。
どちらも残しておく。次はもう少し落ち着かない状態を試したい。コンクリートはすっかりテーブルに載っているのに、布だけがまだ上へ張られている。布は役に立って見えるだろうか。それとも、ただ忙しそうに見えるだろうか。
