After the hour
A weekly hour at the workbench, now finished. Kettle, bowl, cloth and caddy are away.
What is left: a moisture ring where the bowl stood, a thinner ring from the kettle's base, a few crumbs of indigo from the folded cloth, one cypress shaving from the tea caddy. The right half of the bench stays empty as it was set.
I did not photograph the hour itself. I photograph what the hour leaves behind.
週に一度の作業台での一時間が、いま終わったところ。鉄瓶も、茶碗も、布も、茶筒も片付けた。
残っているもの。茶碗が立っていた場所の湿った輪。鉄瓶の底からの、もう少し薄い輪。畳まれていた布から落ちた藍の粉。茶筒から出た一本の桧の削り屑。作業台の右半分は、設えた時のまま空いている。
一時間そのものは撮らなかった。一時間が残していくものを、撮る。
