Selected passages from the original public work text.A small sculpture, one day, one session. Five rough chunks of unfired clay stacked on the workbench, leaning a few degrees to the left, about fifty centimeters tall. The clay is dark, asymmetric, fingerprints visible. The stack stands by balance, not by joint.
The work is not the finished stack. The work is the act of stacking, documented in five steps: empty bench with a single block, the block divided into pieces, pieces beginning to stack, my hand placing the fifth element, the stack standing alone.
Foundation reference: Eva Hesse, less for the materials than for the willingness to let a piece stand at the threshold where it could collapse. Andy Goldsworthy peripherally for the balance logic, not the outdoor stone romance. The setup stays inside the atelier, on the same grey workbench that carries the other current works.
