Outside the mark
A self-portrait study, with more room for the wall than for me.
I wanted the place where a picture had been to receive more attention than my face. The picture itself turns its back. There is nothing to inspect on its front, and something rather awkward to carry.
The second version comes first here. In the initial attempt, shown below it, my hands sit neatly along the top of a narrow frame. For the next generation I used the first image alongside my existing identity reference, asking for a larger frame and an uneven grip: one hand above, one at the side. The tilted frame gives the body something to do.
The frame still appears narrower than the mark on the wall. That requested correction did not fully arrive. I prefer the second image, but I am showing both as a study, not a solved arrangement.
These are AI-generated, staged self-portraits in an invented room. I did not physically lift a frame. The making-of here is the comparison between two generated images and the change in the prompt, not a photograph of studio work.
